Here I am, at the end of the world...well, nearing the end of the Google+ world, anyway. Perhaps, instead of looking for the Next Newest Thing, it's time to look back at a slower, calmer way of interacting online, the way I remember things before the start of modern social media with its relentless feed constantly drawing our attention with bells and buzzers and infinitely scrolling results.

Perhaps it's time to contemplate, to consider, to think about our words again.

Perhaps.

Well, let's see, shall we?

Seems like there is some exodus going on right now with the announcement from Google to shut down G+, can it be?
There are quite a bunch of people arriving here with reference to that platform...

There is definitely an exodus, and with it a lot of folks exploring various platforms, trying to find the ones that suit us.

It’s so refreshing to not have the infinitely scrolling results! Setting the place, mentally, to be my homespace in the Internet has allowed me to come, post, read, comment... and feel done enough that I can step away and not feel like I have to “just check” a half hour later. I’m not running just to fall more slowly behind, and I kind of love it.

Can image that it's somewhat relieving not to get to watch everything through an endless reloading timeline.
Even technically, I'm never enthusiastic about these as it stresses the resources of the machine unnecessarily... Nope, want to decide myself how much I want to trace back what somebody's been doing and what he didn't do.
By the way, I find reading less a thing that drains you of energy than always having to watch videos.

DW is patterned after Livejournal, which was the big thing for me in the early and mid 'aughts, so in the same way DW is very much like coming home.

I'm not going to bother porting my LJ stuff over; even the most recent stuff is MINIMUM a decade old, and would really be just sort of... disjointed at best, I think.

But heckin' yes, this homecoming feeling to a place we haven't much been before! I like it. ::puts on the kettle::

I should see if any of my several coffee/mug icons would work as tea...

...maybe this one?

Take it, have it, use it! I do not recall whence it originated back in the day, but I used it as a coffee/love icon on LJ for a long time. It will serve very well for tea. :)
